Bute Park

Steeped in history and full of interesting trees, wildlife and horticultural features, Bute Park is a magical place to escape from the hustle and bustle of Cardiff city life.

With its varied events programme throughout the year, including the much loved RHS Spring Show, the park is listed along with Cardiff Castle, as a Grade 1 historic designed landscape  and also contains the Blackfriars site, a  scheduled ancient monument, a magnificent arboretum and a wealth of archaeological and nature conservation interest.

Bute Park is undergoing a £5.6 million restoration project, supported by a £3.1 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). This will restore some important historic features, provide new facilities and help tell the park’s fascinating story.

To access Cardiff Castle from Bute Park there are a variety of bridges, which over the years and with many visitors walking across them, the bridges were in desperate need of specialist refurbishment to ensure that they were Health and safety compliant.

Cardiff City Council produced an open tender for the refurbishment works and Seren Contractors were successful with their tender submission.

Pre tender submission a considerable amount of research took place to source specialist non slip materials from sustainable sources which also were robust to cope with the footfall.

Health & Safety was paramount on this project due to the variety of flamable materials used so COSHH was a major part of the Risk Assessment and Method Statement documentation.
